"The Rainstorm" is one of Roberta's earliest stories, written, I believe, in the '70s, so there might be some elements you are not familiar with. This was before the Age of Cellphones, when even a young wife could wander off alone and get herself into trouble. There's also a passing reference to something called a "down payment."
